Have some protein rich foods for breakfast instead of cereal and juice when you're trying to lose weight.
When compared to other nutrients, proteins are well known for their ability to make you feel more full for a longer period of time. This feeling of satiety helps you to reduce your calorie intake in a healthy way and in turn helps you lose weight. So go ahead and have yourself some chicken breast, tuna, wild salmon, or lean cuts of beef. Good sources of non-animal proteins are whole eggs, Quinoa and Greek yogurt (be sure to read the food label to make sure you're not eating one that's really not so healthy for you).
1. Start Your Day with a Nice Glass of Cold Water
BEFORE you prepare or eat any solid foods for breakfast, drink a nice cold 8 oz. glass or cup of water. This is my number one idea for super easy weight loss, because it requires very little effort on your part. Not only is it a very refreshing way to begin your day and doing it hydrates your system, but the real reason you want to start your day off like this is ... it will help you cut back on your calorie intake in a healthy way. Water is very filling and it gives you time to think about how hungry you really are (if you're hungry at all) before you start eating. Also, drinking cold water causes your body to burn calories in order to bring the cold water up to your body's temperature.
From personal experience, casually drinking, not gulping, a glass of cold water first thing in the morning makes it extremely difficult to overeat. I usually drink 18 - 20 oz. of cold water when I come downstairs and doing this allows me to comfortably delay eating my first meal of the day for at least another 2 hours.
Don't see how drinking a glass of cold water can help you lose weight? Read this article: "Does drinking ice water burn calories?" on the Discovery Health website...it will give you a better understanding of how cold water causes your body to expend energy.

3. Eat Fruits that Are Low on the Glycemic Index
Eating fresh fruit is an excellent choice for people who want to eat a healthy breakfast. And fruits that have a Glycemic Index range below 55 are the way to go for people who want to lose weight. Low GI fruits release glucose (sugar) slowly into your blood stream and will help maintain energy levels over a longer time period. Because of the slow release of sugar into the body, you will be able to avoid those food cravings that have you wanting to eat between meals. So for breakfast I would stick with apples, cherries, grapefruit, peaches and plums.
4. Have Some Veggies for Breakfast
Not just any vegetables, but super vegetables known as Cruciferae (new latin for "cross bearing") or crucifers. Cruciferous vegetables, like Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Collard greens & Kale, are rich in vitamin C, nutrients, soluble fiber, antioxidants and cancer fighting phytochemicals. They also help in fighting the effects of xenoestrogens and can help you lose stubborn belly fat. So go ahead and have some crucifers for breakfast ....not only are they naturally good for you, they can also help you slim down.

BONUS: Healthy Breakfast Ideas For When You're On the Go
What can you eat that's good for you when you're rushing off to work, to class or to drop your kids off at school? Here are 2 healthy breakfast ideas that are excellent when you're in a rush:
- A fruit and protein smoothie made using frozen berries (strawberries & blueberries are great choices for this type of smoothie), unsweetened coconut milk or Lifeway Organic Kefir (low fat) blended together with a high-quality whey protein.
- Two hard-boiled eggs, half a grapefruit, an orange, a handful of raw nuts (walnuts, almonds or pecans) and some celery or carrot sticks.
5. Just Say “No“ to Bacon, Sausage, Biscuits and Toast
Many of us grew up loving bacon, sausage, biscuits or toast as part of our breakfast meals, but that doesn't mean that you want to continue eating them now -- especially if you're trying to live a healthier lifestyle. Bacon and sausage made from pork are highly-processed foods that are fairly high in saturated fat, sodium and nitrates. Not only can they expand your waistline, they can also increase your risk for high blood pressure, certain types of cancer, heart disease and stroke. Breakfast breads like biscuits, bagels and even toast are highly processed grains that offer little nutritional value (if any) and are rich in carbohydrates, which you will need to reduce if you ever hope to get rid of those extra pounds.
Here's Another Healthy Breakfast Tip for You:
Ditch the fruit juices and other so-called "healthy" drinks! Although fruit juice tastes good and the beverage companies market them and other "healthy" drinks as being good for you, it doesn't mean that you should be drinking this stuff! Most juices and so-called "healthy" beverages are loaded with sugar or artificial sweeteners that can cause your blood glucose levels to spike. The spike in glucose levels will boost your insulin levels, which will prevent you from burning fat! My advice: stick with water (see #1 above), green tea or a protein fruit smoothie (see the sidebar).
From what you’ve read so far, you should realize that none of the healthy breakfast ideas presented in this hub article are difficult to follow. It may take you a little time to become adjusted to eating healthier for breakfast, BUT they are all very easy to implement to achieve your weight loss goals.

Mike Geary, a certified nutrition specialist (and author of the Truth About Abs & co-author of Fat Burning Kitchen), recommends you eat good sources of proteins and healthy fats for breakfast. Foods like whole eggs, veggies (both of which I've recommended here), grass-fed meats and avocados. Mike, who is also a certified personal trainer, says these foods increase a hormone in the body known as PYY or Peptide YY that controls your appetite and signals you when to stop eating. PYY also increases leptin sensitivity (leptin keeps your metabolism in high gear).

Hi Ray,
Good tips about how to start your day. I have seen several similar tips on the Dr. Oz show recently. Never thought about eating the cruciferous vegetables for breakfast however, but I can see how some broccoli mixed into an omelet would work. Thanks! Voted up, useful, interesting and will share with my followers + tweet.
Great ideas/reminders here. Breakfast will always be the most important meal of the day--we need to get it right!
Thanks for this great article about healthy choices for breakfast.
Good advice on how to start your day, El Ray. I absolutely agree with the 10 oz glass of water, before anything else! It makes all the difference in the world to how you feel, it aids weight loss and it curbs hunger.
Voted up and interesting.
Very interesting hub and I really enjoy this article. Thanks for writing and share with us. Rated up and useful!

Great hub! Not eating breakfast can ruin your day and your health. I wake up an hour early everyday before work just so I can sit down to a healthy breakfast. Eggs with broccoli, Whole wheat toast with all natural peanut butter, and an apple, or plain old quick oats with blueberries and walnuts. Also spend $99 bucks and get yourself a juicer. I will never drink anything but real fresh juice again.
Awesome article. I found something like this on everyday-healthessentials.com too!
Food for thought! I have a hard time getting an appetite for meat in the morning, so I always start my day off with a greek yogurt to get some protein. I really also like your tip about drinking a glass of water right away. Great idea!
Excellent ideas -- I've always started my day with a glass of ice cold water. I just like the taste -- didn't know it also helped with weight loss. Voting this Up and Useful.
Great hints. Thank you very much. Love the ideas.
