Natural Gout Treatment

Did you know that many men and women who suffer from gout actually prefer a natural gout treatment over prescribed medicines? It's true. There are a number of reasons why natural treatment of gout pain is a much more popular than pharmaceuticals:

  • they can provide pain relief without the risks of side effects associated with prescription drugs
  • if you have limited or no medical coverage natural remedies can be far more cost effective
  • some natural therapies can relieve pain and reduce the amount of uric acid in the body, while drugs used in treatment for gout do one or the other, but not both

But On the Flip Side ...

On the flip side, even though these alternative home-based treatment methods are very popular with many gout patients and there seems to be a growing chorus of people online singing their praises, it doesn't mean that natural treatments are superior to or more effective than prescription medicine. Also keep in mind that most of the "proof" offered about the results achieved from any natural treatment of gout pain is mainly social proof - there have been little in the way of scientific studies on the effectiveness of natural remedies in treating gout.

Natural Gout Remedies That Get Results

Here are 5 natural remedies that have been effective for the treatment of gout:

  1. natural raw apple cider vinegar with "the mother"
  2. dark cherries
  3. black cherry concentrate extract
  4. lemon juice
  5. baking soda

The above-referenced treatments are by no means a comprehensive list; there are many more do-it-yourself natural therapies that can help you treat gout and the pain associated with it. However, 1 - 3 are some of the more popular ones that you will find being discussed in online gout communities.

No matter which natural method you use, you should stay off the affected foot, keep it elevated and if it's not too painful to touch, place an ice pack on it.

Exercise Caution If You're Already Taking a Gout Drug

If you're currently taking prescription medicine to help your body eliminate or stop making uric acid, be very careful about using them with natural gout remedies for pain management. The drug interaction with the natural or herbal supplement may result in greater pain or other unintended complications; therefore, you should always discuss how any alternative treatment for gout pain might effect you with your doctor.

How to Reduce Your Uric Acid Levels

Before Trying Any Natural Treatment for Gout

Before you try any natural treatment you need to confirm (with your doctor) that you do in fact have gout. There are other arthritic conditions that have similar symptoms to gout. The last thing you want to do is attempt to diagnose yourself, take a home-based remedy based on what you think you have and make the condition worse.

Your Results May Vary

All gout sufferers are not created equal. We all have different health profiles and different uric acid levels. So your results with home remedies may be different from those experienced by others. For example, many people rave about receiving pain relief from apple cider vinegar (ACV). Some receive relief almost immediately, while others experienced relief from the pain within a few days, but for some men and women ACV provides very little or relief from gout pain at all.

In my own experience I was able to get fast relief from the pain of my first acute gout attack by using Bragg's apple cider vinegar with the "mother" by itself. But in a subsequent flare up, I had very little relief from just the Bragg's by itself. I had to take 2 teaspoons of Arm & Hammer baking soda in 8 oz. of water with the ACV in order for the pain to go away completely.

Knowing this, don't be discouraged if one natural treatment doesn't work for you the way it has for others. Be diligent and try another home remedy.

What is the Mother?

Kelly "the mother" is a living bacteria and nutrients in raw ACV that has a cobweb like appearance when you hold the bottle to the light. It settles near the bottom of the bottle the more the ACV ages.
